On March 28, a thunderstorm blew through Virginia and knocked down a cable in Tamra Spink’s backyard, reports Fox 5. At first, she thought it was her power line. But when a Comcast technician came out to survey the damage, they confirmed that it was actually her internet cable.
She told Fox 5 that Comcast and Xfinity were able to restore her internet right away. The technician, however, didn’t remove the cable from her yard once he was done surveying the scene. When Spink reached out to Comcast to have this issue resolved, Comcast allegedly ghosted her.
Spink claimed to Fox 5 that she spent a month calling and emailing Comcast to have a technician remove the cable. When that wasn’t enough, she even allegedly visited her local Comcast store, which worked to a degree. Spink said that Comcast did send another technician to survey the yard. However, all they did was confirm what Spink already knew: the cable in her yard was her internet cable.
The second technician apparently then left as the first did — without the cable. Comcast continued to ghost Spink. But Spink would not allow Comcast to dampen her spirits.
In an interview with local ABC affiliate 7News, Spink said: “I’m tired of being mad at things. This last year or so has taught me that you have got to accept things and meet things where they are. And, I had to meet the cable where it was which was laying across my yard. We had to coexist and the only way to coexist together was to have a little bit of fun.”
So, Spink decided to take photos of the cable and create her own memes.
In one post, she’s photoshopped an image of Tony Hawk onto the cable with the caption, “Team #cablegate is shreddin’ it.”
In another, she’s added a rollercoaster car to the cable, and has captioned the image: “Been a rollercoaster of a day with the @xfinity cable still down in my yard.”
Her posts include Baby Yoda, Jaws and even Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Spink tagged Comcast in all the posts, and included her own special hashtag, #cablegate, because every good campaign needs a good name.
She originally posted the meme updates to her personal Facebook page but recently posted the images to Instagram as well.
In her interview with 7News, she said, “My goal was to just stay true to who I want to be. I wanted to be someone about a solution and someone that wanted to be heard. And I think the memes were a way to do that.”
Thankfully the memes and the local media coverage apparently worked. After 7News reached out to Comcast to ask about the delay, the company sent a technician to recover the cable.
Though Spink had a good laugh making the memes, she shared with the local outlet that she’s annoyed that it took a month to have the issue resolved.
“The nominal amount that they credited my bill doesn’t really speak accountability to me,” Spink told 7News.
