The new BLEACH arc originally premiered on October 10 on TV Tokyo and its affiliates, with streaming in Japan available via Hulu and Disney+, platforms which have also made the series available in the US and internationally, respectively. While the Spanish dub has been announced and broadcast has begun, no cast information has been made available as yet. BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War is the anime adaptation of the manga’s climactic final arc (volumes 55-74), which depicts the war between the Shinigami of Soul Society and the Quincies, who were once thought to be extinct.
The original BLEACH manga was serialized in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump magazine from 2001 to 2016, running for 686 chapters across 74 volumes. The original anime began airing in October 2004, running for 366 episodes to March 2012. The franchise has also spawned four animated movies, as well as a live-action film which premiered in 2018. The series has also spawned a number of spin-offs, including Tite Kubo’s most recent serialization, the limited series titled BURN THE WITCH, a BLEACH one-shot set after the events of the original manga, as well as several novels based on the original series.
BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War is a project produced by Studio Pierrot, which was also responsible for the production of the original anime series. A number of staff changes see leadership change from the long-time director of the series, Noriyuki Abe, to Tomohisa Taguchi (Akudama Drive), who is also responsible for storyboards, scripts, and series composition; while long-time series character designer, Masashi Kudo, returns to fill the role once more. Music is once again the jurisdiction of the legendary Shiro Sagisu.
The original cast as well as various cast members from the BLEACH: Brave Souls mobile game returned to reprise their roles, while the English dubbed version saw a similar return in the main cast, with exception to Chad, whose voice actor has changed from Jamieson Price to Alain Mesa. The Spanish dub of BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War airs on Saturdays, starting on Saturday, November 12.
